I am the Director of Criminology and Criminal Justice, and an Assistant Professor of Criminology/Criminal Justice and Sociology at Randolph College, where I am starting the new major in Criminology/Criminal Justice. During the 2023-24 academic year, I was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology at Wake Forest University. I received a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in 2023, and also hold an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Virginia, and a B.A. in English and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Yale University.
My current book project, Legitimating Violence: Interpretations, Court Rulings, and Racial Violence in America, takes a cultural, theoretical approach to examining how violence is interpreted and racialized by various processes of the state.
Previous work has appeared in Sociological Theory, New Political Science, and The Journal of Political Power, as well as in the Handbook of Classical Sociological Theory, and the Cambridge Habermas Lexicon.
